ST. LUIGI ORIONE PARISH, GAITU IN MERU DIOCESE OFFICIALLY OPENED AND PARISH CHURCH CONSECRATED

 On 12th June 2022 marked the beginning of a milestone in our Kenya Region. It was full of pomp and colour as the Christians of St Luigi Orione Gaitu Parish joined in the celebration of the official opening of St Luigi Orione Gaitu Parish and consecration of the Church presided over by Rt Rev Bishop Salesius Mugambi, Bishop of Meru Diocese.

The celebration began by welcoming the Bishop from the market place until the parish signifying the long awaited day for the faithfuls of Gaitu. Thereafter the former chairman gave a short history of how the parish began from our two mother churches Nkabune and Chaaria respectively not forgetting the challenges they underwent during the securing of the Land and the building of the Church. 

Thereafter followed the procession into the Parish Church for the blessing and consecration of the building as a sign of purification the place of worship. In addition, the members of the parish pastoral council were presents to the Bishop for the blessing who later asked them to work in collaboration with the parish priest.

In his homily the Bishop emphasized working in unity as the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy spirit). He also emphasized on supporting the Don Orione Fathers in their mission in the Parish and encouraged the Congregation to continue with the good work in the diocese. 

Fr. Maurice Mawira who will be the first parish priest of this new Orionine Parish recited the profession of faith (the creed) in front of the Bishop and the faithful. When the time for the anointing of the altar and walls with Chrism oil reached, the Christians remained calm, and their eyes fixed on the altar since it was a new experience for them. Then followed the procession of five pots signifying the five wounds and incensing signifying a holy place where the sacrifice will be offered during the holy mass. 

The climax of the main activities of the Day was the lighting of the candles on the altar and 12 candles signifying the foundation of the Church on the 12 apostles. The faith of St Luigi Orione Gaitu Parish is founded on the Apostles and the parishioners should uphold the teachings of the Apostles; the Bishop insisted.

Before the mass ended, we had the blessing of the new tabernacle where Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will be placed. The Bishop emphasized that the Christians should not leave Jesus alone and respect the Church at all times since it is a place of worship. After the Eucharistic celebration, the bishop proceeded to officially open and bless the community house where the members of our religious family will be residing as they serve the faithful of St. Luigi Orione Gaitu Parish. 

Don Orione charismatic family was well represented during the celebration since we had our Little Missionary Sisters of Charity, the Blind Sacramentine Sisters, the Orionine Lay Movement members. 

Fr. Thomas Gwaro congratulated the faithful of Gaitu Parish and gave a message on behalf of the Regional Superior Fr. Njenga who was in Italy for the General Chapter of the Congregation. It was a day full of joy and happiness for the whole family of St Luigi orione Gaitu Parish in Meru.We thank everyone who supported in a big and small to make this dream come true. We ask for your prayers for the whole family of Gaitu parish. May our mother Mary intercede for us always. May St. Luigi Orione pray for us. DON ORIONE FATHERS START A COMMUNITY IN KISUMU ARCHDIOCESE-KENYA

It was all pomp and celebration in Nyadorera, Siaya County in the Archdiocese of Kisumu when the Kenyan region welcomed their 5^th community, St Elizabeth of Hungary Parish. The region had just culminated their silver jubilee celebrations and two days after on Monday 20^th a new mission was born. 

On Sunday 19 night, Christians had spent the whole night, in the mother Parish St. Lawrence Uradi, in a, eucharistic adoration vigil praying for the inauguration of the new. On Monday morning, at 6.30am, the pilgrimage started towards the new parish of Nyadorera. This act of pilgrimage to the new parish is also an aspect of inculturation in the sense that, in the local area and according to the culture and tradition of Luo people who are in Kisumu, when a young adult is ready to start a home, he is accompanied from the parents home to his home as a sign of guidance and support from the parents. The people walked to the old mother parish to the new created parish praying, the way of the cross, the rosary and with songs and dances.Hundreds assembled at the new mission grounds where mass was conducted by Fr Fredrick the Parish Priest of St Lawrence Uradi which is the Mother Parish and a sermon was given by Fr Ojijo, the Dean of Siaya deanery.

In a very lively sermon with a mix of Dholuo (local language), Kiswahili and English, Fr Ojijo mainly dwelt on the need for the Christians of the new parish to be people of faith and to actively support their priests who will be working there.

In some five points, Fr Ojijo urged the parish leaders to be at the forefront of leading with faith. This is through constant prayer. All parish work must begin and end in prayer, led by the leader.

On self-sustenance, Fr Ojijo brought in the centrality and importance of offertory, supporting the priests in prayer, in kind and in material. He taught them that, to move forward they had to own the priests and the parish.

In a tickle, he told them that the smartness of a priest reflects the generosity of the Christians that he serves. On behalf of Fr Raphael, he urged the Christians to be actively involved in providing for the basic needs as well as all what is needed in the parish.

10 Kenyan orionine priests, 25 seminarians and brothers as well as Orionine Lay Movement members were present at the inauguration of the new Parish Community.

The new Parish will be served by two priests Fr Raphael Kailemiah assisted by Fr James Njoroge. We wish them all the best as they purpose to be missionaries of Providence in the Western part of Kenya.

A new marriage or family, with passing of time, is marked by a new life. The following day on Tuesday 22, Fr. Raphael baptized 46 infants as a sign of new life in the Parish.St Elizabeth of Hungary Parish has three Chapels: St Elizabeth of Hungary, Parish Center, St Simon Peter Mahero and St Christine Sumba. The parish is located in Siaya county and borders Bungoma Diocese. It has a blend of Luo and the Abaluhya people. We wish well to Fr. Raphael and Fr. James as they serve the people of Nyadorera and as they make the orionine presence be felt.

THE WORK OF THE ORATORIOS

The work of the Oratories Today: The concept of the Oratorio was born and developed in Italy and has a long tradition. Many saints including Don Orione have given importance to oratorio. The work of oratoris, or Sunday schools or boys clubs are called not only to be limited to the place where our congregation are grown.

Oratories in Latin America: In the religious province our lady of La Guardia in Latin America, may communities have oratories. Priest or religious brother takes the spiritual director place. Common activities of Oratorio are human, religious and liturgical formation. Human means human values like friendship, sports etc. the devotion to St. Luigi Orione. Other activities can be visiting clients of Cottolengo, joining artwork and seminars, or being part of the church choir. A survey among the members of the oratorio said “to part of oratorio is to have second home.”

Oratorios in Asia: The Children of the oratorio San Lorenzo in Philippines said in a survey that “to be part of oratorio is like a family.”  They have become respectful children and youth. 

Oratorios as an essential dimension of the Orionine youth apostolate

Don Orione gave a lot of importance to the Oratorios. Luigi Orione himself was formed in an oratorio, being a student of Don Bosco in Turin. The festive oratorio is our blessed nest. The festive oratorios are still the health of society. Each much have its own festive oratorio.  The little work arose from oratorio. Salvation of all the youth of the entire world will come about not by colleges but Oratorios.

Humble beginnings: You can begin in a small courtyard and small room. Very soon a new people will join the oratorio. Discipline is necessary: Priest/brother is should have humble, fatherly and elder brotherly love. One should Praise in general and should not do any partiality among the members. Method of  Don Orione’s teaching method is “Christian fatherly method.” To become young with the young.

Oratorio and youth center have very important role in constitution norms; c#120, N#109. Documents of the church; Orione’s projects are vocation for youth.

Pastoral Recommendations

Each religious member in the community should have a role in Oratorio. Oratorio is to insert the project or schedule accordance with the diocese youth ministry. Oratorio is fertile ground for oratorio.

The Perpetual Vows of Our Brothers

In filipino language, there a common used expression; "walang forever". it means that there is no forever. This expression leads me to reflect on the perpetual vows of our seven brothers of The Sons of Divine Providence. They recently have said "yes" to the Lord "forever" by hoping to follow more closely the foot steps of Don Orione in journey towards God.



The celebration was taken place in Kandisi parish under the care of The sons of Divine Providence. The main celebrant was fr. Peter fdp regional superior. Delegate superior Rev. fr. Marcelo fdp was also present. fr. Malcolm, fr. Njenga, fr. Arnaud and fr. Jeremiah were very much present and behind the success of the ceremony. Br. Augustus, Br. Joseph, Br. Thomas, Br. Paul, Br. Dennis, Br. Arvind and Br. Jackson have said "Yes" perpetually to the Lord by entering into the Orionine family.

This is amazing to see how God works on these brothers by showing blessings and Grace on them. It is a joy and happiness to see the people walking on the Lord's path. we orione theologicum would like to congratulate them by using the word of our founder (saint Luigi Orione): "DO GOOD ALWAYS, GOO TO ALL AND HARM NO ONE."

Second Year Theology

80 years Birthday of St. Luigi Orione in Heaven

Saint Luigi Orione was born in Piedmont, Northern Italy, at Pontecurone, a village near Tortona on 23rd June 1872. The young Luigi felt he wanted to be a priest and joined the Franciscans, but had to leave due to ill health. He was welcomed by St. John Bosco, but left the Salesians after a few years to become a seminarian in his own Diocese of Tortona. Don Orione loved everybody; but the poor, the young, the elderly, the sick and people with disabilities were his special friends.

He died in Italy on 12th March 1940 after sending a loving message to the Pope: His last words were: "Jesus.. Jesus.. Jesus." His body is incorrupt and can be venerated in Tortona. He was beatified in Rome on 26th October 1980 by Pope John Paul II. The same Pope declared him a Saint on 16th May 2004.

The ideal of Don Orione's life was to live and to die for the spiritual welfare of people, serving Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Mother Church and its head, the Pope. His motto was, "Do good always, to all, evil to none". This year as we orionines celebrate His 80 years of Birthday in heaven, His life encourages us to follow very closely his motto "Do good always, to all, evil to none."

Merry Christmas and Happy 2015

The great innovation of the birth of Jesus is that God's face, before hiding, is made visible to all, even to those who do not believe. God can be seen. God has shown his face, "the imprint of his nature" (Heb 1:3) in the love of Jesus. From the birth in Bethlehem to the cross on Calvary, the entire earthly existence of Jesus shows that the face of God is love.

The Communities of the Sons of Divine Providence of Nairobi, Kandisi and Kaburugi wish you a Merry Christmas. May this season bring you joy and laughter.

In a joyful surround of Brothers and faithful, in the parish church of All Saints (Ognissanti), in Rome, on December 8, have been ordained deacons three Orionines Clerics Andrew Langbong Koungbanwo (Togo), SIMPLICE Hitoka Teta (Togo), both from the Vice-Province Our Lady of Africa, and ANTHONY Njienga Mburu (Kenya) of the Missionary Delegation Our Lady of the Church.

The ordaining Bishop was Mgr. Giovanni D'Ercole, Orionine Bishop of Ascoli Piceno.  In his homily Mgr. D'Ercole proposed Mary as a model of diakonia (service), she who was entirely and exclusively for God, and was all directed to the good of men of whom she is constituted mother.

The ceremony was attended by many confreres, superiors and seminarians of the Orionine Theologicum and many other colleagues of studies of our three new ordained deacons.

Fr. Malcolm Dyer, Superior of the English speaking Delegation, addressed some words of thanks by noting that Africa is now the flowering of vocations for the Church and for the Congregation.

Anthony Njenga is the sixth Orionine Religious of Kenya reaching the sacred orders after Father Peter Wambulwa who has celebrated one month ago ten years of priesthood, Father Raphael Kailemiah, Father Mboche Paul, Father James Waituika F and Father Morris Mawira.

To our three new deacons we wish a good diaconal service under the motherly care of the Blessed Virgin. With St Luigi Orione let's say Ave Maria e Avanti!

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of Divine Providence in Nairobi

The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was marked this year in Nairobi of a little more special coloring. The entrance to the the Postulancy of two of our students in philosophy, Peter Karanja we Wilcliff Mumia and the 10 years of priesthood of Father Peter.

The tradition here is to celebrate the entrance to the Postulancy every November 20th in commemorating the main patron saint of the Congregation. This year the special note was the tenth anniversary or the priestly ordination of Father Peter Wambulwa Wakoba. First Orionine _ priest of Kenya, Father Peter was ordained on November 19 of the year 2004 in Kitale his hometown. 10 years are passed that he said yes to serve the Lord in the service of the ministerial priesthood. In celebrating this jubilee of tin or aluminum, he wanted to give thanks to God in a special way for the work of love that he has consistently achieved in him and through him.

To that we have combined the entrance to the postulancy of our seminarians. Some would read there a simple coincidence, but for us Sons of Divine Providence, we see a work of the providential action of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While the eldest celebrates 10-year on the footsteps of Christ in the service, the cadets decide to make their first decisive step in the religious family of Don Orione and make themselves sons of the Mother of Divine Providence.

With them we give thanks to God and for them we pray the Blessed Virgin, Patron of the Congregation to intercede on their behalf.

From Tortona to Kaburugi, the journey of the Lady of the Safe Keeping

One of the dream of Don Orione, his great love for the Blessed Virgin Mary crosses the borders and wins the hearts of all his sons and daughters. Our Lady of the Safe Keeping has just appeared a. Browsing Oceans and traveling through almost six thousand kilometers, the Statue of Our Lady in the Safe Keeping which surmounts the Basilica of Tortona and protects the city of origin of our Founder Don Orione has been erect in miniature copy in St Peter's Parish a. The work is the initiative of Father James Njoroje, Parish Priest and his Vicar Father Morris Mawira.

The idea is to dig deeper into our faithful of Kaburugi parish to a predilection love for the Blessed Virgin. Located at the entrance of the parish, in the main compound, the Statue of Our Lady of the Safe Keeping made of clay and gilded in bronze color, of one meter tall set on a pillar of nearly three meters facing the Parish Church. The Blessed Virgin with Love and Joy welcomes all who pass through the gate of the mission and lead them to her Son.

Ad Jesum per Mariam, as underlined Don Orione "To Jesus through Mary". And to mark this mediating power of the Holy Virgin complete, she actually drive visitors from this place to her Holy Son's while open Heart who greets them with the same love. The Blessed Virgin of the Safe Keeping face under a certain angle to the Statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus located at the close of the presbytery.

International Convention for Works of Charity and Education, Montebello

There are a couple of weeks was held in Italy at Montebello della Battaglia the International Convention on the Works of Charity and Education. 

From Kenya attended Father Peter Wambulwa and Mrs. Beatrice Nyambura Head-Teacher of the OCTC (Orione Community Training Centre of Kaburugi). Mrs. Beatrice Nyambura has kindly given us the very rich report of the five days' work. 

After a welcome to the 120 participants from 32 countries, including female and male religious and lay people of the Orionine Family, the Convetion started on Thursday 23^rd October the full program of talks, starting with Fr Flavio Peloso, followed by experts on charity, charism and education.  There were group sessions and presentations of some particularly significant activities and institutions from all over the world

REPORT ON THE CONVENTION ON CHARITABLE WORKS OF DON ORIONE IN EDUCATION HELD ON 22^nd to 26^th OCTOBER

INTRODUCTION

The meeting was held at Montebello in Italy which was represented by all delegates of the congregation of sons of divine providence and it also included lay people working in Education institutions.

November, month of the "Requiescat In Pace"

For us Sons of the Divine Providence, as heritage from our Founder St Luigi Orione, one of the most commonly recited prayers is the Prayer for the dead or for our Faithful departed. It is however, one of the greatest acts of charity we can perform to our brothers and sisters who have left this earthly world for the journey towards the New Jerusalem. Through our prayers, we try to help the faithful departed during their time in Purgatory, so that they can enter more quickly into the fullness of Heaven and from there, in the company of the Angels and the Saints intercede for us.

As in a particular manner our Mother Church invite during this month of November to pray more for the souls of her departed sons and daughters, our Community of the formation house in Nairobi has chosen this year to celebrate this prayer at Muthangari, the religious and priest cemetery, near St Austin Catholic Parish. We have been fortunate to have with us Fr Isaac Vondoame from Togo, on his way journeying  to the Mozambique where he is appointed for mission.

Every day, at evening prayer, after mentioning the name of our brothers, sisters and confreres departed,  we use to say for them Requiescat In Pace "Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen".

Fr Stan: "I'm an Orionine and am trying to become a complete man"

Specialists in Theology and great scholars have agreed to affirm that love is the generative force of creation. Nature itself reveals an additional dimension, that love of creation is the source of life. Love the Creation is above all express one's gratitude to the Creator for Strength, Beauty, Bounty and Providence of which he continues to fill his creation. For us Sons of Divine Providence, that love of creation also involves healthy use of the resources of this creation and especially leveraging the talents that the same Divine Providence has rewarded each one of us.

"Servants with the same attitude" Do whatever he tells you (John 2:5).

On October 25, 2014 we held our traditional monthly recollection, on the theme: "Servants with the same attitude" Do whatever he tells you (John 2: 5). This took place in the Community of the Novitiate of the Little Missionaries Sisters of Charity (Don Orione). The moderator, Reverend Sister Maria Stella has led us to discover the greatness of Lord's call and the singularity of each one of us in the perspective of constantly answer to this call. Below is a patchwork of some elements discussed.

On the Footstep of Mary:

The Blessed Virgin Mary “conceived, brought forth and nourished Christ. She presented Him to the Father in the temple, and was united with Him by compassion as He died on the Cross. In this singular way she cooperated by her obedience, faith, hope and burning charity in the work of the Saviour in giving back supernatural life to souls. Wherefore she is our mother in the order of grace.” (Lumen Gentium 61)

“The Blessed Virgin teaches unconditional discipleship and diligent service. In Mary, "the temple of the Holy Spirit, "all the splendour of the new creation shines forth… The Blessed Virgin shares with them the love which enables them to offer their lives every day for Christ and to cooperate with him in the salvation of the world.” (Vita Consecrata 28)

In the whole mystery of Christ, from his Incarnation up to the Calvary, Mary have been a gift given to all, especially to us her predestinated children, religious, seminarians and priests. That sounds much for us daughters and spiritual sons of Don Orione, to whom she is a Foundress and Heavenly Mother. Mary for us is an example of serving the plan of the Kingdom of God, the one we are all called to love in a special way, especially in this month of the holy Rosary. During this day, at her school, let us rediscover our being servants of the poor and disciples of Jesus.

It's been expected for months... and this morning, it's official. Today October 19, 2014, was held at the St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, the Beatification of Pope Paul VI, the Pope signatory of the documents of the Second Vatican Council. He is the same one who, on 15 September 1965, following the invitation of this Second Vatican Council, with words of great profundity and historical scope established the Synod of Bishops. Thank you for his deep and humble testimony of love for God and his people. One could express him greatest gratitude than to celebrate his Beatification after a Synodal Meeting.

Who is this Pope Paul VI (1963-1978)?

Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini was born on September 26, 1897 at Concesio (Lombardy) of a wealthy family of the upper class. His father was a non-practicing lawyer turned editor and a courageous promoter of social action. Giovanni was a frail but intelligent child who received his early education from the Jesuits near his home in Brescia. Even after entering the seminary (1916) he was allowed to live at home because of his health. After his ordination in 1920 he was sent to Rome to study at the Gregorian University and the University of Rome, but in 1922 he transferred to the Accademia dei Nobili Ecclesiastici to study diplomacy continuing his canon law studies at the Gregorian. In 1923 he was sent to Warsaw as attache of the nunciature but was recalled to Rome (1924), because of the effect of the severe Polish winters on his health, and assigned to the office of the Secretariat of State where he remained for the next thirty years. Besides teaching at the Accademia dei Nobili Ecclesiastici he was named chaplain to the Federation of Italian Catholic University Students (FUCI), an assignment that was to have a decisive effect on his relations with the founders of the post-war Christian Democratic Party.

Dear Eminences, Beatitudes, Excellencies, Brothers and Sisters,

With a heart full of appreciation and gratitude I want to thank, along with you, the Lord who has accompanied and guided us in the past days, with the light of the Holy Spirit.

From the heart I thank Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary General of the Synod, Bishop Fabio Fabene, under-secretary, and with them I thank the Relators, Cardinal Peter Erdo, who has worked so much in these days of family mourning, and the Special Secretary Bishop Bruno Forte, the three President delegates, the transcribers, the consultors, the translators and the unknown workers, all those who have worked with true fidelity and total dedication behind the scenes and without rest. Thank you so much from the heart.

I thank all of you as well, dear Synod fathers, Fraternal Delegates, Auditors, and Assessors, for your active and fruitful participation. I will keep you in prayer asking the Lord to reward you with the abundance of His gifts of grace!

I can happily say that – with a spirit of collegiality and of synodality – we have truly lived the experience of “Synod,” a path of solidarity, a “journey together.”

And it has been “a journey” – and like every journey there were moments of running fast, as if wanting to conquer time and reach the goal as soon as possible; other moments of fatigue, as if wanting to say “enough”; other moments of enthusiasm and ardour. There were moments of profound consolation listening to the testimony of true pastors, who wisely carry in their hearts the joys and the tears of their faithful people. Moments of consolation and grace and comfort hearing the testimonies of the families who have participated in the Synod and have shared with us the beauty and the joy of their married life. A journey where the stronger feel compelled to help the less strong, where the more experienced are led to serve others, even through confrontations. And since it is a journey of human beings, with the consolations there were also moments of desolation, of tensions and temptations, of which a few possibilities could be mentioned:

 - One, a temptation to hostile inflexibility, that is, wanting to close oneself within the written word, (the letter) and not allowing oneself to be surprised by God, by the God of surprises, (the spirit); within the law, within the certitude of what we know and not of what we still need to learn and to achieve. From the time of Christ, it is the temptation of the zealous, of the scrupulous, of the solicitous and of the so-called – today – “traditionalists” and also of the intellectuals.

 - The temptation to a destructive tendency to goodness [it. buonismo], that in the name of a deceptive mercy binds the wounds without first curing them and treating them; that treats the symptoms and not the causes and the roots. It is the temptation of the “do-gooders,” of the fearful, and also of the so-called “progressives and liberals.”

 - The temptation to transform stones into bread to break the long, heavy, and painful fast (cf. Lk 4:1-4); and also to transform the bread into a stone and cast it against the sinners, the weak, and the sick (cf Jn 8:7), that is, to transform it into unbearable burdens (Lk 11:46).

 - The temptation to come down off the Cross, to please the people, and not stay there, in order to fulfil the will of the Father; to bow down to a worldly spirit instead of purifying it and bending it to the Spirit of God.

 - The temptation to neglect the “depositum fidei” [the deposit of faith], not thinking of themselves as guardians but as owners or masters [of it]; or, on the other hand, the temptation to neglect reality, making use of meticulous language and a language of smoothing to say so many things and to say nothing! They call them “byzantinisms,” I think, these things…

Undoubtedly, there is life in the Don Orione Nairobi’s Community, and the animals themselves can attest it. The months of August-September have given to experiment an active dimension of the ordinary life of our Community. In January-February 2014 we were talking about "Green Providence", referring to the agronomical dimension of our reality. At this Agronomic dimension is grafted one that although existing previously, seemed vegetating, the Agro-pastoral, the breeding of dairy cows. Two of our dairy cows have, in the course of four weeks, August 30th for the first and September 26th for the second, given birth to two calves, one bull and one heifer.

Observing these events, one of our young seminarians who do not lack humor, did not fail to say that it would be interesting to reorient the objectives of the house and the vocation of our Community into an "Agricultural Centre" where people would come to form on breeding technique and in garden.

Thanks to the Divine Providence for the strength of spirit and creativity he continues to give to each of us. The most important is to know the dimension of manual work well rooted in all of us and shared with joy by our young people in formation. Ave Maria e avanti!
