Great day, this 30th June 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Parish of Kaburugi. It is exactly 20 minutes to 10, the exact time the mess was
to begin. The parishioners had gathered early in the morning to avoid the
mistake of Bishop Kamau arriving before them as he had indicated.
It was a big ceremony, which brought along the eight chapels
that makes Kaburugi parish. They all converged for one purpose; gather together
as a “family”, this family, that brings about the meaning of today’s feast…
“The feast of family day”.
It is in this occasion that the congregation of the Sons of
Divine Providence in Kenya, thought of having one of their own, Morrice Mawira
Gichia, be ordained deacon.
A big team represented Meru diocese, where Brother Morris hails
from. Another formidable team came from Kandisi Parish in Gong Diocese where
Morris have been helping for Sunday services.
The whole team of the Sons of Divine providence in Kenya was
happily present; lead by the writer of this article Fr. Paul Mboche Mwangi, Fr.
Raphael Kairemia Rimiri, Fr. Peter Wambulwa Wakomba, Fr. Alejandro Luiz Yanez,
Fr. James Njoroge Waituika, Fr. Joachim Aboa Ake, brother John Bosco, brother
Anthony Gachau and some students.
- The mass, preceded by his Lordship Bishop Kamau, the auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi Archdiocese started at 10.00 am. He advised Christian on how to devote themselves on their families, a place where everybody should feel welcome as its member.
He underlined the point that a family is not just a house but
a home. He explained that, one can have a very good house but be suffering in
it because he does not relate well with the members of that house. But, in the contrary,
one should live happily with the members of his family despite having a poor
house, if one leaves happily in it, we call it a home.
The Bishop clarified that, one builds his heavenly home (house)
while still on earth. He gave as a story of an old woman whose daily work was
to collect firewood for her use; she even refused going to the Church and also
to the small Christian community in pretext of going to fetch firewood. When,
one day she died and went to heaven. He found Saint Peter waiting for her at
the gate to give her the key to her room. When she opened her room, there was
no space for her to seat down leave alone entering; why...? It was full of
firewood!
This is to; somehow insist on living well here on earth, the
life that will be, symbolically reflected in heaven; our future home.
Latter, after giving a peace of humorous advice to brother
Morris on dedication to the Lord, fully without looking behind, the ceremony of
ordination started and at the end of the mass, obviously, Morris was an
ordained deacon, servant of God.
We, the family of Don Luigi Orione in Kenya
desire to wish deacon Morris well in his new responsibility in the congregation
and especially in the Church. May the Almighty God the father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit be with him now and always. Amen.
